The history of painting in Slovakia dates back to around the year 1000. In the previously established history of Slovakia, although eventful and rich in battles for its own territorial, cultural and state-building self-determination, and also due to its strategic location in the center of Europe, monuments other than painting arose in the context of art history. The period of prehistoric settlement and antiquity, linked in Slovakia with the stay of the Romans, currently reveal memorials without direct traces of painting expression. Within them we can reflect on the issue of ornamental painting and a solid drawing basis in regards to writing, jewelry, applied objects, but not a complete language and style of painting.
