Čierny Orol (Black Eagle) Memorial House, Liptovský Mikuláš

The former Čierny Orol inn (Black Eagle inn) is located on the corner of the street with attached housing. It was created by combining three older buildings probably in the 19th century. Following the enlargement of the theater stage it became an important center for the development of cultural life in the town and region. On the first of May 1918, a great gathering of workers for the self-determination of the right of nations, to halt the war and for an 8-hour working day, took place in the courtyard of the inn. At that time in Slovakia, the participants publicly announced the requirement of creating a joint state of Czechs and Slovaks. A bronze relief by L. Majerský commemorates this event.
